Students from New Vista School are helping to spruce up City facilities as part of a volunteer work experience program Mission Viejo kicked off last year.
New Vista School, www.newvistaschool.org, is a nonprofit progressive educational center that provides a safe, structured educational environment for students in grades 6-12 + with Asperger Syndrome high-functioning Autism and language-learning disabilities.
Public Services staff is working with the high school-aged kids giving them jobs that suit their individual abilities and interests. Charged with maintenance cleaning duties at the Mission Viejo Civic Center, Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center and the Tennis Pavilion at the Marguerite Recreation Center, the students are helping City staff keep the grounds and site amenities clean and in order.
“The program is a win-win for the kids at New Vista School and the City,” said Public Services Operations Manager Jerry Hill.
