The Mission Viejo Relay For Life planning committee is seeking new members to help plan the 2013 Relay For Life, a longtime family event that has raised more than $2 million for cancer research. The first planning meeting is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. October 18 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.
Committee members volunteer at the June Relay For Life event and help with ceremonies, pre-event fundraisers that honor survivors and caregivers and so much more. There is something for everyone, no matter how much or little time a volunteer can give.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight fundraising walk where teams take turns walking the track for 24 hours to raise funds to eliminate cancer and create a world with more birthdays. The event honors cancer survivors and caregivers and remembers those who lost their battle to the dreaded disease. Because Relay is a team event, individual participants don’t have to be there the entire time, but with live entertainment, onsite fundraisers and a party-like atmosphere many enjoy spending much time for the cause.
The public is welcome and encouraged to take part in such an important and worthwhile cause. For more information, contact event chair Amanda Bassett at Abassett@Cityofmissionviejo.org or 949-859-4348 ext 5722.
