Middle school students interested in taking some fun, exciting and educational after-school programs are invited to sign up for the City’s fall Middle School Enrichment Courses at the Thomas R. Potocki Conference Center.
Registration is now available for two 7-week sessions for fall 2012. Each course has a onetime registration fee of only $5. Participants must be in grades 6th – 8th for the 2012-2013 school year.
Students can enhance their love of reading in the Book/Activity Workshop featuring the book “Starcrossed” by Readers’ Festival author Josephine Angelini. The course (#2951) is from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10 through Oct. 22.
Youngsters interested in photography will embrace the Photography Club. The first session (course #2963) is from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 through Oct. 22. The second course (#2976) is on Monday from Oct. 29 through Dec. 17.
The Fashion Design Workshop will appeal to “fashionistas” and those interested in learning about the latest trends. The course (#2954) takes place Wednesday, Sept. 12 through Oct. 24 from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Tackle math by taking the Algebra Workshop. The first session (course #2961) will take place from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 through Oct. 25. The second course (#2973) follows Nov. 1 through Dec. 13.
If you’re mad about science, register for the Mad Science Crazy Chemworks that takes place from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Tuesday from Oct. 30 to Dec. 11 (course #2977).
Chess Club with Academic Chess is an exciting class that takes place in two sessions, with the first class (#2955) kicking off from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11 through Oct. 23 The second session on Thursday takes place Nov. 1 through Dec. 13 (course #2957).
In the Mural Workshop, you will create a work of art based on a Readers’ Festival featured book “Starcrossed.” The course (#2950) is on Friday from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. from Sept. 14 through Oct. 26.
Embrace nature and the past by taking the Native American History along the Oso Viejo Trail program on Thursday from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Sept. 13 through October 25 (course #2956).
Eddie Van Halen wannabes can take advantage of two sessions of Beginning Guitar from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 through Oct. 26 (course #2952); and from Nov. 2 through Dec. 14 (course #2974). Intermediate Guitar takes place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 through Oct. 26 (#2953) and again on Friday from Nov. 2 to Dec. 14 (course #2975).
To sharpen your math skills, the Pre-Algebra Workshop is from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday from Sept. 12 through Oct. 24 (course #2971) and from Nov. 7 to Dec. 12 (course #2972).
Learn the Financial Basics for Teens will take place from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Monday from Oct. 29 through Dec. 17 (course #2959).
