Patriotism will waft through the air with the sounds of an incredible military band that has performed over 400 ceremonies including the state funeral for President Ford and the Tournament of Roses Parade, among many others.
The 50-member 1st Marine Division Band will grace Mission Viejo in a special 1 p.m. performance on August 30 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.
Members of the 1st Marine Division Band, which was organized during World War II, have drawn their rifles in support of several operations including Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom I and II. They have been decorated for their talent, receiving the “Colonel George S. Howard Citation of Musical Excellence for Military Concert Bands” from the John Philip Sousa Foundation in 2008. On August 30, they will be joined in Mission Viejo by the incredible talents of Dawn Wright, the “famed voice” of the Los Angeles Angels and Anaheim Ducks.
This exciting performance will follow a special recognition event to all local World War II veterans, widows and family members. WWII veterans and family members are still sought for this free City event that features a social hour at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon. Following that, all members of the community are invited to enjoy the talented Marine Corps Band and sensational Dawn Wright.
