What do you get when you put a bunch of passionate kids in front of a camera armed with a microphone and a host of endearing questions? You end up with some darn good TV.
That’s what happened when several 8 to 16 year olds took to the field and in front of the camera during the Julie Foudy Soccer Camp in July. Acting like the most seasoned sports reporters, the kids left their mark at the World Cup Soccer Center and on the Olympic gold and silver medalist.
“Wow, great question,” Foudy said when interviewed on air by young Aidan Auci, who asked her what it was like to be the captain of a U.S. Olympic team. “It was a great honor and it was quite easy … because I had all of these great players around me that were great leaders as well.”
The interview was one of many that took place during Foudy’s popular Soccer Camp, which attracted more than 150 girls who enjoyed her expertise and that of an accomplished coaching staff of international soccer stars. Along with soccer skills, the young athletes learned about growth, self-confidence and leadership.
The final day of the camp featured a World Cup Event, as campers represented different nations and squared off for the gold while their parents and friends cheered from the sidelines. Adding to the excitement of the day was Paul Higgins, host of Mission Viejo Television’s “Coaches Corner” who interviewed Foudy for a 30-minute show. The show, which airs Tuesday through Sunday night this week, focuses on her exciting career, Mission Viejo roots and future. See a preview of the fascinating interview:
Higgins brought 15 boys and girls from his own Athletes in Motion Sports Broadcasting Camp to interview the Olympian and her young players. The broadcasters in training were quite the hit.
