Deputy Wayne Dixon will be recognized this fall at the annual “Heroes with a Heart” TIP (Trauma Intervention Programs) awards dinner for his professional, compassionate and caring actions during a call for service in Mission Viejo.
Recipients of these awards are selected from nominations submitted by citizens who recognize and appreciate the actions of first responders during times of distress and physical and emotional trauma.
“I swear this deputy is over nine feet tall, but he is the kindest, most gentle person,” said the resident who nominated Deputy Dixon for the award.
TIP is a nonprofit group made up of citizen volunteers who are called out to emergency scenes by police, paramedics, fire fighters, or hospitals. They respond by giving comfort to family members in the wake of an emergency situation and are often the liaison between families and these first responders.
“These compassionate volunteers complement our efforts greatly by comforting family members, which allows the first responders to address situations at hand and carry out their necessary job duties,” said Lt. Chris Wilson, Chief of Police Services.
