The 13-year-old Jr. All Stars exhibited talent and perseverance by not only clinching the District 68 divisional title but also the Sectional title versus District 55. In district play, the team won all four games beating San Clemente twice, Rancho Santa Margarita and North Mission Viejo Little League by scoring 68 total runs while only giving up three runs. In the sectionals (a best of three series) versus Lake Forest, the players continued to steamroll their opponents by winning the first two games with the scores of 10 – 0 (Wesley VandenBranden pitched a perfect game) and 28 – 3.
The South 13-year-old All Stars include Matthew Austin, Josh Coniglio, Spencer Glatman, Caden Gustafson, Andrew Hagan, Chris Hood, Max Kulmer-Firer, Mason Obbards, Joey Sabers, Matthew Stigna, Wesley VandenBranden, and Luke Zettler. The team was managed by Jim Austin and coached by Darin Gustafson, George Coniglio and Tony Stigna.
With talent and enthusiasm, the South Little League 9/10 year-old All Star team also won the District 68 Divisional Title and made an impressive run in the sectionals. South Mission went five and one in the district tournament with wins over San Clemente National, Ladera Ranch American, Ladera Ranch National and then after losing one to San Clemente American, the team came back and took the title.
The South scored a combined 57 runs while allowing only 19 runs. The district champions were led by solid pitching, great defense and a total team effort in hitting. The 10-year-old South Mission Viejo All Star team includes Jack Haley, Brett King, Milan Tolentino, Jackson Groves, AJ Schur, Niko Tyrovolas, JT DuChateau, Nick Black, Blake Morgan, Parker Roper, Tyler Oakson and James Vorhies. The team was managed by Bo Haley and coached by Jeff King and Jose Tolentino.
