Bestselling author Jodi Picoult and her daughter Samantha Van Leer delighted about 350 fans on Tuesday who flocked to see the mother-daughter writing duo launch their new tween/YA book “Between the Lines.”
The two appeared in the popular Writers Present program at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Mission Viejo Library.
Jodi is the bestselling author of 19 novels, four of which have been made into TV movies and one, “My Sister’s Keeper” is a major motion picture. Samantha, a 16-year-old high school junior, conceived of the idea for “Between the Lines.” The clever young adult romance is about the magical relationship between a loner and her fictional “Prince Charming.” Many at Tuesday’s event were engaged by the story of how the duo collaborated on the book. Fans traveled from all over Orange County and places like Burbank to attend the event. A group from that Los Angeles County city created a poster with quotes from Jodi’s books that have changed their lives. Local teens from the Potocki Summer Book Club enjoyed experiencing their first author event.
The next Writers Present program on September 11 will feature ESPN commentator and sports writer Mike Lupica who will discuss his new book for children “True Legend.” The program will start at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.
