Students entering the 6th through 8th grades are invited to take part in two fun-filled summer courses that kick off later this month at the Thomas R. Potocki Center, 27301 La Paz Road.
The Readers’ Festival Book Club and Mural classes celebrate an author who will take part in the popular fall festival.
In the Readers’ Festival Book Club, participants will read “Timeless” by Alexandra Monir, author of the popular time travel romances that transport readers into another worldly, time-crossed romance. The book follows the story of character Michele Windsor, who when tragedy strikes is forced to uproot her life and move across the country to New York City to live with the wealthy, aristocratic grandparents she’s never met. In an old mansion, she discovers a diary that hurtles her back in time to the year 1910, and a romantic story ensues. Class participants will be guests at a special “meet and greet” with Monir at the Readers’ Festival on Oct. 14. The book will be available for $5 at the first class. The first summer session takes place on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (course codes 2859, 2894) June 26 through July 24, with the second summer session (course codes 2864, 2895) taking place July 31 through Aug. 28. The second session book has not been selected yet.
Young artists in the Readers’ Festival Mural class will tap their creative sides by producing a mural that will be on display during the festival. Participants will mirror that mural after Monir and her popular book and will enjoy meeting the charismatic author during the Readers’ Festival, which boasts an array of award-winning authors, illustrators and personalities. The first session of the Readers’ Festival Mural class (course #2856) takes place on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 28 through July 26. The second session (course #2857) takes place Aug. 2-30 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The book for the second session has not been selected yet.
There is a one-time $5 registration fee for each class, and registration is available online at econnect.cityofmissionviejo.org. For more information, call 949-470-3061.
