The public is invited to enjoy the film based on the Tony-award acclaimed musical “1776” on Sunday, June 24 at Mission Viejo City Hall. The showing will feature a special guest appearance by “John Adams,” and folks will receive a modern English pocket Constitution that includes the Declaration of Independence.
The PG-rated film, which airs at 2 p.m., is sponsored by the City’s Community of Character Committee. The movie coincides with June’s character trait of “citizenship.”
Through song, dialogue, and humor and just in time for Independence Day, the film tells the story of our Founding Fathers’ struggle to break away from Mother England in the days leading up to the Declaration of Independence.
Character educator Elaine Portnoy and history teacher Bob Hayes lead a brief discussion following the film, which will be shown on a theater-size screen with theater-style seating and surround-sound at 200 Civic Center, just across from the Mission Viejo Library.
