Hundreds of athletes from Orange County and across the nation are expected to take part in the Orange County International Triathlon in Mission Viejo on Sunday, May 20. Several road closures on Marguerite Parkway, Santa Margarita Parkway and Los Alisos Boulevard are planned during the event.
The event is Orange County’s only Olympic distance triathlon. The race kicks off at 7 a.m. and ends by 10:30 a.m. The race consists of a 1-mile swim in Lake Mission Viejo and a 25-mile bike ride beginning on Marguerite Parkway, north to El Toro Road and out through Santiago Canyon. The race ends with a 10K run that starts on the Aliso Creek Bike Trail and follows various trail systems leading back to the lake.
The triathlon, which challenges participants’ endurance, includes a mini “Aquathlon” and an open-water swim.
