The Kershaw Garden at the Mission Viejo Civic Center on Saturday was transformed into a fun-filled petting zoo that attracted more than 300 youngsters and their parents.
Under warm sunny skies, children had fun interacting with farm animals that included an Alpaca, sheep, pig, a wagon full of bunnies, two ducklings, Chinese chickens and a miniature horse. All Gods Creatures, which provided the event, even brought brushes for the kids to groom the mild-mannered animals. This special program was sponsored by Mission Viejo Library volunteer Marvis Kushnick.
Another petting zoo is planned for next year. Stay tuned to the Mission Viejo Life www.missionviejolife.org blog for details.

I really appreciate the city offer ing this free event, however it was very poorly planned. The 300+ visitors was for about 10 farm animals in a 100 square foot area. Basically what you might hire for a birthday party. This meant that families had to wait with whiny children in the hot sun for over 30 minutes to have about 5 -10 minutes in a crowded area with the animals and a bunch of other children. It was not worth it at all. Since the city is planning this again I hope that they either plan to have many, many more animals in a much larger area or give timed tickets away. I know the company was trying to be cute, but dressing up a goat in a dress is fairly odd.
