The City’s Marine Adoption Committee is once again seeking cookie donations to distribute to military members and their families during the committee’s annual spring Family Day at Lake Mission Viejo.
Cookie drives over the past two years have netted about 14,000 cookies from residents who heeded the call to celebrate April’s character quality of “service” by serving those who serve. Along with serving them up at Lake Mission Viejo, several cookie packages were also sent to military personnel overseas. Organizers of the spring event are hoping for a command performance by the community, especially since this year’s Family Day will cater to 1,200 Marines, Sailors and family members from the Headquarters Battalion of the 1st Marine Division.
Groups, individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate in this worthwhile cause. Since this also makes a great service project, a special request has gone to the Girl Scouts of Orange County – Saddleback Service Unit to submit either homemade or Girl Scout-brand cookies.
Folks interested in donating cookies can deliver them with their name/group name and number of cookies attached to the second floor of City Hall by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 26. City Hall is at 200 Civic Center. For more information, contact Tammy Descoteaux at tdescoteaux@cityofmissionviejo.org or 949-470-3094.

I enjoy your informative news letters, but don’t you think that just a matter of hours is short notice for the cookies?
I agree a little late notice! this is the first I have heard of donations requested as well as this event. Really hard to try and volunteer for this committee when No updates or emails are sent to those interested, as well as unable to go to the meetings held during the day…most of us work can’t make a 2pm meeting would like to see this committee be more welcoming to volunteers who work and want to help out…would have been a great opportunity to volunteer to help out for the event this weekend, what a great way to give back however No notice sent out or information etc
