Community members of all ages are invited to enjoy an animated historical journey of “Thaddeus Lowe and the U.S. Balloon Corps” on Saturday, February 11 at the Norman. P. Murray Community and Senior Center.
Civil War living historians Steven and Patrice Demory will portray Thaddeus and Leontine Lowe and present the history of the Balloon Corps in period attire and use an extensive PowerPoint presentation to illustrate their discussion. Two of Thaddeus Lowe’s great grandsons will also join the fun.
This exciting program will give folks the opportunity to learn about this little known aspect of the Civil War and the important accomplishments and inventions of Thaddeus Lowe throughout his life and here in Southern California, including his development of the Mount Lowe Railway. Their discussion will take you on a journey back to truly “vintage” aviation, how balloons were used in the American Civil War, and the beginning of the U.S. Air Force.
The program is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 24932 Veterans Way in Mission Viejo. Admission is free. For more information, call 949-470-8440.
