A 40-year-old man was arrested in Mission Viejo Saturday after ramming his car into police and taking authorities on a high-speed chase.
Jason Ehle is facing charges of driving under the influence of drugs and evading police.
The incident happened around 5:15 p.m. when a Mission Viejo sergeant noticed Ehle parked at Bebee Park inside an older Toyota Camry with paper plates. When the sergeant walked over to get a closer look, he smelt burning marijuana coming from inside the car. Ehle saw the sergeant and immediately drove off at a high rate of speed. The sergeant pursued him for about 4 miles and blocked his Camry in a cul-de-sac before Ehle rammed the car into the police unit and sped away.
The Sheriff’s Department’s air support followed the man into Irvine and then back to Lake Forest where he ultimately crashed into the center median and another vehicle on Muirlands near Turf in Mission Viejo. He jumped out of the car and fled on foot but was captured a few minutes later. Along with marijuana, deputies also found stolen mail inside his vehicle.
Mail thieves are a dangerous lot. Apparently some of them also smoke marijuana.
