The public is invited to enjoy “The King’s Speech” on Sunday, January 15 at City Hall as part of a free movie series sponsored by the City’s Community of Character Committee. The PG-13 rated film begins at 2:00 pm and highlights “perseverance,” Mission Viejo’s character quality for the month of January.
The film demonstrates the power of perseverance as King George VI of England, father of the current Queen Elizabeth, seeks treatment, endures humiliation and ultimately achieves success for his stuttering thanks to an unconventional speech therapist. The film won four Academy Awards in 2010 including Best Picture and Best Actor.
Character educators Elaine Portnoy and Bob Hayes will lead a brief discussion following the film, which will be shown on a theater-size screen with theater-style seating and surround-sound at 200 Civic Center, just across from the Mission Viejo Library.
