More than 200 people enjoyed the inaugural AYSO Region 84 “Navy & Gold Cup” on Sunday, Dec. 11.

The event on the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park pitted parents against each other in a special tournament designed to honor the volunteers with a family day full of soccer fun. AYSO is an all-volunteer organization that is fueled by volunteers.

“Without the players’ parents stepping up to be coaches and referees, Region 84 would not exist,” said Dave Selecky, regional commissioner of Region 84.

Coach Robert Vetter agreed. “What a great event this was … bringing the community of Mission Viejo and Region 84 together, allowing the volunteers this great opportunity to play like kids again,” he said. “Thanks Region 84 for a great season!”

The “Loose Cannons” won the tournament along with forever bragging rights. The players include Sarah Andrews, Bob Bartlett, Jennifer Bedrosian, Scott Goodman, Mike Hernandez, Kevin Krasner, Gary Macmonigle, Suzanne McNulty, Bryan Middleton, Jon Nelson, Dina Shacter and Robert Vaughan.
