Trabuco Hills High School is still buzzing after its team won the Division 1 State Title at the CIF State Cross Country Championships on Nov. 26.
This is the second state championship the school’s runners have won in the past 5 years.
Led by Head Coach Liam Clemons and Assistant Coaches Hartzell Alpizar, Jacob Griswold and Jace Hinesly, the team includes Jared Hazlett, Nick Plumb, Naoki Omatsu, Kevin Marshall, Max Moncur, Lucas Dorman and Brendan McCabe.
“In the end, our plan worked well and our togetherness paid off,” Clemons said. “We finished with a 16-point victory, but more importantly, we finished together with only a 30-second gap between our scoring runners. Because there are five divisions in Cross Country, there are five State Champions. However, after merging the results of each race, we were the fastest team of the day and the undisputed State Champion across all divisions. This was truly a team effort and a beautiful example of how important qualities like selflessness and dedication are to success in sports.”
Most recently, the team was successful on Saturday in placing 14th overall in the Nation Championships in Portland, Oregon. The webcast is at NikeCrossNationals.com.
