The City Council Chamber on Monday was filled with music and talent as Saddleback College Musical Theater Students took center stage performing a well-choreographed presentation that prompted smiles and a hearty applause. The production was led by music director Daniel Trevino, with choreographer Ellen Prince and pianist Christopher Smith. The students, who performed a piece from the Broadway show – “Memphis” – attended the City Council’s meeting to encourage people to support the arts.
The powerful presentation was followed by a Council recognition of the top finalists of the 9th Annual RoleAbout Theater Festival held at Mission Viejo High School on October 15. The festival was born several years ago at the school for theater students throughout Orange County. It was the brainchild of theatre director Kathy Harris, who informed the City about the festival and her talented students. On Monday, Mayor Dave Leckness presented City certificates to Marissa Carillo; Megan Dorsey; Kayta Ferrer; Allison Gerstley; Ben Kimler; Josh Lobb; Kelley Moody, KJ Mowery; and Dillon Steckbauer for their efforts.
The presentation portion of City Council meetings are designed to highlight people and groups in the community and recognize those who make a difference in Mission Viejo.
