Magazines, hand and foot warmers, dried fruit, and other items are sought to fill shoeboxes that will be shipped to Marines serving overseas.
The shoebox drive, launched by the City’s Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee, is part of an effort to make the holiday season a little brighter for military personnel and raise morale.
Board games, baby wipes, protein bars and other items listed here are sought by Wednesday, November 30 and can be dropped off at specifically marked boxes at City Hall, the Mission Viejo Library, Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, and the Sierra and Montanoso Recreation and Fitness Centers. The shoeboxes will be shipped overseas in time for the holidays.
In other Marine news, the Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee raised $25,000 this year to support the City’s adopted troops. The funds sent roughly 1,200 Marines to the annual Marine Corps Ball on November 10 and will also be used to provide emergency assistance to Marines and their families. Through the community’s generosity, the committee also collected more than 600 ball gowns for female Marines and spouses to wear to the ball.
