Mission Viejo residents are encouraged to brighten their neighborhoods and share the holiday spirit by competing in the annual Holiday Lighting Contest, hosted by the Mission Viejo Activities Committee.
The preliminary judging for this year’s contest is Dec. 5, 6 and houses must be decorated and entries received by Friday, Dec. 2. Final judging takes place on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
Homes are judged in different categories and winners receive a holiday gift basket. This year, the following new categories have been added to the mix.

Ever “Green” – Use environmentally-friendly LED lights and show your neighbors it’s easy being green.

Through a Child’s Eyes – Create a wonderland with characters, animals and delights for children of all ages.

Reason for the Season – Celebrate the nativity with a memorable manger scene.

Creative Inflatables – Fill your yard with a creative display of inflatables of all shapes and sizes.

Traditionally Elegant – Show us how you sparkle and shine with gorgeous lights, greenery and elegant holiday style.

The Clark Griswold Award – Gather your neighbors and create a street so bright it can be seen for miles around. The winning street will win a block party hosted by the Mission Viejo Activities Committee.

Maps to the locations of winning homes will be available starting Saturday, Dec. 10 during Santa’s workshop from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mission Viejo Civic Center, 200 Civic Center. They’ll also be online at www.mvactivities.com.
