This Saturday, October 29, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, in partnership with The U.S. Department of Justice, will provide multiple locations throughout Orange County for residents to turn in their unused or expired prescription medications.
The Drug Enforcement Administration concludes: “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. More than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs. Each day, approximately, 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.”
Just as important as changing the batteries in your smoke detectors, cleaning out your medicine cabinet will help provide a safe environment for your family. Take advantage of this opportunity and bring your unused or expired medication to a collection site for safe disposal.
