Meghan Kinney grew up in Mission Viejo. She attended Castille Elementary, Newhart Middle School, Capistrano Valley High School, and Tesoro High School before home schooling so she could focus on her love and talent for synchronized swimming. Meghan was planning to swim in the 2012 Olympics until she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. Due to the enormously high costs associated with her cancer treatment, Meghan and her fiancé, John, have been faced with a very limited budget to plan their wedding. “I love this girl so much and it would absolutely mean the world to me to be able to give her the dream wedding that she (and her family) deserves” says John.
Perhaps there is a way. Meghan and John, who is stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, are one of 10 happy couples vying for the wedding of their dreams in the Salute to Love contest sponsored by Obxbrides.com.
Shirley Cook, an event planner in North Carolina, originally came up with the idea to tap into the local Outer Banks resources and provide one lucky couple a phenomenal wedding weekend for up to 75 people. “We deeply admire and appreciate all the military individuals and families who sacrifice, endure hardships, and put their lives on the line for us in the name of freedom. This contest is just a small way for us to give something back to those who do so much and ask so little.”
