Mission Viejo High School students came out big winners at the 9th Annual RoleAbout Theater Festival on October 15, 2011. 23 Southern California schools – from Los Angeles to San Diego – competed in the day-long festival which was hosted by Kathy Harris’ Drama Department at Mission Viejo High School. 10th, 11th and 12th grade students were permitted to compete with the endorsement of their drama teacher and professional judges from theater and film chose the winners in 10 competition categories.
The following students from Mission Viejo high schools won awards in the competing categories as noted:
Kayta Ferrer and Dillon Steckbauer – 1st place, duets – Mission Viejo High School
Allison Gerstley – 1st Place, contemporary monologue – Capistrano Valley High School
Kelley Moody and Ben Kimler – 1st place, contemporary scene – Mission Viejo High School
Kelley Moody – 2nd place, solo song – Mission Viejo High School
Megan Dorsey – 3rd place, classical monologue – Mission Viejo High School
Marissa Carillo – 3rd place, film monologue – Mission Viejo High School
Josh Lobb and KJ Mowery - 3rd place for Othello classical scene – Mission Viejo High School.
Top Ten Finalist winners from Mission Viejo High School included Megan Mortenson (cold reading), Keanu David (solo song), Katya Ferrer (solo song), Britteny Vargas (contemporary monologue), Stephanie Parker (contemporary monologue), Megan Dorsey (original monologue), Audrey Heurlin (original monologue), Emily Young/Kristi Farley (contemporary scene) and Julie Cornish/Kayta Ferrer (duet).
The City Council will honor these talented students on November 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 200 Civic Center.
