Capistrano Valley High School is a top contender in a contest to win $50,000 worth of Microsoft software, thanks to a parent whose nomination and push for online votes landed the school as one of two semi-finalists in the region.
The school is a semi-finalist in Microsoft Store’s “Win Big for You and Your School” Contest sponsored by Microsoft Corporation. A win would add to Capo’s national contest track record. Last year, it won an electronics prize package from Samsung worth $210,000.
Parent Wendy Harder once again submitted the entry form for the contest that runs through Sunday, October 9. The entry with the most online votes in the particular “Contest Region” wins. Winners will be notified early next week.
Harder submitted the following “Recipe for Excellence” to garner votes.
“Take one over-crowded public high school in a school district facing a $7 million dollar budget shortfall in 2011, add required classes using computers for all students – including college and careers for all freshmen, English for all students and even digital animation for the adventuresome. Stir in 400 computers in six labs and the need for all of these computers to have upgraded Microsoft software and heap on the fact that the school budget has NO funds for these technology upgrades. Sprinkle with the knowledge that new Microsoft Office software will allow language, history and social studies students to use the latest version of Word for essays and to learn PowerPoint for presentations. Add a heaping cup of Excel for math and economics students, and Expression Studio for art students. Bake with care for also upgrading teacher software for curriculum and classroom planning. Serve with better education for over 2,900 high school students!”
