Community groups, students, churches, families, businesses and individuals are sought to help remove trash and debris from local creeks, watersheds, trails and neighborhoods on Saturday, September 17.
The public is invited to participate in the annual Inner-Coastal and Watershed Clean-up Day from 8 a.m. to noon in Mission Viejo. The City’s clean-up event takes place at the Oso Creek Trailhead on Marguerite Parkway. Volunteers will help remove trash and debris in and around Oso Creek and at the commercial center near the creek. Registration takes place at the trailhead.
Inner-Coastal Clean Up Day, held in conjunction with Coastal Clean Up Day, is one of California’s largest volunteer efforts. Last year, more than 80,000 volunteers across the state turned out to remove litter and debris from California waterways. In Mission Viejo, more than 200 volunteers collected about 500 pounds of trash.
This year, volunteers are invited to embrace the “Bring Your Own” philosophy by bringing their own grocery/retail plastic bags (for reuse), buckets, gloves and/or reusable water bottle to make this event as “zero waste” as possible. A small amount of trash bags and disposable gloves will be available while supplies last.
At the end of the day, the bags will be tallied, weighed and included in the county’s roll up to the state.
