Ten years ago, our lives were forever changed by an unforgettable act of terrorism. On Sunday, the City of Mission Viejo paid tribute to the men, women and children who lost their lives and the heroes that responded to the catastrophic events of 9/11 with a reverent memorial event.
Determined never to forget, residents quietly honored those who lost their lives on that defining day that indelibly shaped who we are, how we live our daily lives, and what we believe in. Under a relentless sun on a gorgeous day woven in stars and stripes, local Boy and Girl Scout troops led a flag ceremony and sang patriotic songs of peace and hope. Many in attendance mourned family members and friends who were lost in the attacks. The simple playing of Taps as scouts lowered the U.S. flag marked the Patriot Day ceremony, which was also meant to unite the community in hope and strength for the future.
The City is grateful to all who participated in Sunday’s event and thanks the following scouts for their efforts:
Girl Scouts of Saddleback 6
Junior Girl Scout Troop 204
Girl Scout Troop 1207
Girl Scout Troop 204
Boy Scout Troop 1602
Bathgate Pack 603 (Cub Scouts)

Where are Cathy and Barbara? Do they not remember what happened on 9/11?
I think you mean Councilmembers Schlict and Reardon… very dissappointing to see them not join in on Patriots Day! Kudos to Mayor Leckness, Mayor ProTem Ury and Councilmember Kelly for making this a priority.
