The public is invited to attend an exciting art history lecture by art historian Jack King on Friday, Sept. 23.
The free lecture is at 7 p.m. in the Saddleback Room at Mission Viejo City Hall, 200 Civic Center.
King, who breathes life into the history of his subjects, will discuss Andrew Newell Wyeth, one of the best-known U.S. artists of the middle 20th century. The animated speaker will delve into the personal life of Wyeth, the youngest son of N.C. Wyeth, who has been recognized internationally as America’s foremost realist. He was a visual artist, primarily a realist painter and worked primarily in watercolor and egg tempera. He received the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1963 and became the first living artist in 1970 to be accorded an exhibition in the White House.
The essence of Wyeth’s art is best expressed in his own words: “I search for the realness, the real feeling of a subject, all the texture around it … I always want to see the third dimension of something … I want to come alive with the object.”
