Cornelia Funke, a multiple award-winning author of children’s and young adult fiction, will make a rare public appearance at the Mission Viejo Readers’ Festival on Oct. 1.
Funke is best known for her “Inkheart” trilogy, which have gained international attention and critics have praised her as the “German J. K. Rowling.” Time Magazine named her as one of the 100 most influential women in the world.
In her latest book, “Reckless,” Funke transports readers to another world. The story follows a man who has been disappearing into a magical world since he was a boy only now to have his younger brother follow him into this realm with catastrophic results.
Funke will join an array of well-known authors, including actresses Linda Evans and Molly Shannon, and illustrators at the Readers’ Festival. This free festival, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Mission Viejo Library, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Oso Viejo Park and the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way. The fun-filled festival will boast a food court, entertainment and vendors displaying an array of literature-based products.
The event, which attracts thousands from south county and beyond, has put Mission Viejo on the literary map. For more information, visit www.mvreadersfestival.org.

Hi,
If we want to attend one of the author’s talks, will there be an advance sign up or do we sign up the morning of the Reader’s Festival?
Sharon
Hello Sharon,
No advanced signup needed for the Readers’ Festival. Plan to arrive fifteen minutes prior to the author start time to get your choice of seating. Visit our festival website for the program schedule: http://www.mvreadersfestival.org
In addition to our great authors we will have live entertainment, storytimes and mini plays at the adjacent outdoor venue.
