Residents can recycle their paper egg cartons for a “fun” cause by donating them to the Mission Viejo Library. The egg cartons will be used to build a craft of the beloved dragon in bestselling author Rick Riordan’s “Heroes of Olympus” series.
Riordan, who wrote the mega popular Percy Jackson books for children, will visit Mission Viejo’s Oso Viejo Park at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 to celebrate the release of “The Son of Neptune.” In honor of Riordan’s only Orange County visit, children will be able to participate in fun-filled activities like building a “Festus” dragon out of paper egg cartons. The dragon’s name, Festus, is from Hephaestus, the Greek god of blacksmiths and fire, who believes that everything can be reused.
Paper cartons only (no plastic or Styrofoam) can be dropped off at the Mission Viejo Library, 100 Civic Center, during library hours.
Tickets to Riordan’s event are available starting Tuesday, Sept. 6. For more information about purchasing tickets and the event, visit http://cityofmissionviejo.org/Library/Library.aspx?id=15282.

The releasing of the book is Oct 8? FOr the whole world?

I CANT WAIT FOR THE SON OF NEPTUNE!!!!
We are working on planning a great event for Rick Riordan’s visit to Camp Halfblood Mission Viejo. All are welcome to come and hear Rick speak on Saturday, Oct 8. To get a personal signing, the tickets are $22, which includes “The Son of Neptune” and additional activities.
Why is the city getting involved in Pagan worshipping? Rick Riordan is promoting paganism in a Christian country, and should be banned.
Rick Riordan’s books are the most popular children’s books across the county and in our community. The theme of his books relate to the Greek myths that are a core component of school curriculum. The novels offer a chance for students to explore the classical heritage of Greece and to discuss the themes of loyalty, friendship and faith.
