More than 500 kids gathered Tuesday for the SummerREAD Celebration party at the City’s Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.
The party, complete with entertainment by Julliard-trained pianist Beth Sussman and juggler Michael Rayner, was for the 852 children who completed 12 hours of reading in the popular program designed to instill a lifelong love of reading. Parents of toddlers were also feted for reading 12 hours to their youngsters.
Mayor Dave Leckness and Chief of Police Services Lt. Mike Gavin were on hand for the festivities along with hundreds of proud parents and grandparents.
The Mission Viejo Library’s month-long SummerREAD program attracted 2,562 children this year. The Friends of the Mission Viejo Library sponsored the reading program, which helps children to achieve future success in school and careers.
