Mission Viejo kicked off a volunteer work experience program with New Vista School this month in an effort to benefit the students and City alike.

New Vista School, www.newvistaschool.org, is a nonprofit progressive educational center that provides a safe, structured educational environment for students in grades 6-12 + with Asperger Syndrome high-functioning Autism and language-learning disabilities.

Public Services staff is working with the high school-aged kids giving them jobs that suit their individual abilities and interests. Charged with maintenance cleaning duties at the Mission Viejo Civic Center and Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, the students are helping City staff keep the grounds and site amenities clean and in order.

“The program is a win-win for the kids at New Vista School and the City,” said Public Services Operations Manager Jerry Hill.

Anyone interested in similar volunteer opportunities should contact the department at publicservices@cityofmissionviejo.org or call 949-470-3085.
