Community members opened their hearts and wallets Saturday and donated more than $3,500 in a car wash fundraiser hosted by the City’s Marines & Sailors Adoption Committee to support Mission Viejo’s adopted troops.
About 50 Marines and Sailors from Truck Alpha, a division of the Headquarters Battalion of the First Marine Division, washed about 100 cars at the Mission Viejo Civic Center. The Marines, who returned from Afghanistan earlier this year, chatted with residents who were only too happy to support the cause and feast on pancakes served up by the Mission Viejo Activities Committee.
Proceeds will help send much-needed items to deployed Marines; make baby baskets and host a baby shower for expectant mothers; coordinate an annual “Day at the Lake” for Marines and their families; and offset the cost of entry-level Marines and Sailors to attend the annual Marine Corps Ball in November. Funds will also help provide emergency assistance to Marines and their families.
