Youth from North, Central, and South America are taking part in the City’s 5th annual USTA/ITF Cruyff Foundation Junior Wheelchair Camp Americas this week at the Felipe Tennis Center. The camp, which started today, is the only one of its kind in the nation.
The junior wheelchair tennis camp, which is put on by the United States Tennis Association and the International Tennis Federation in partnership with the City, is designed to teach and train advanced to beginner wheelchair-bound juniors on the sport of tennis. Since it began in Mission Viejo four years ago, it has doubled in size and has helped to put Mission Viejo on the international map.
Current and former world-ranked wheelchair professionals, Paralympics coaches/athletes and coaches from the United States Tennis Association will guide youth ages 10 to 18 in this unique wheelchair camp. The goal is to offer young athletes not only professional sports training but the opportunity to develop friendships with kids both near and far as well as many fantastic memories.
The Tennis Channel will film the camp on Thursday for a TV segment that will appear during the US Open. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to watch some extremely talented kids play tennis. For more information, call 949-859-4348 (option 5).
