The Mission Viejo Library’s SummerREAD 2011 is seeing impressive numbers with more than 1,250 youngsters signing up in the fun-filled program’s first week.
The popular annual program is designed to instill a lifelong love of reading and features prizes and incentives for young readers age 0 through 12. SummerREAD runs through July 30 and registration is ongoing.
Children receive a book bag, a copy of the reading game, and a book log just for registering. They earn rewards for reading or being read to for three, six, nine, and 12 hours. They can enjoy special free programs throughout July including a “Rope Warrior” performance by Guinness World Record-holder David Fisher on July 16 and Scott Land Marionettes Theater on July 23.
Eager readers who complete the full 12 hours of reading will receive an invitation to attend the SummerREAD STARS Celebration Party on Aug. 2. Children are encouraged to sign up in person at the library, 100 Civic Center, or online. Teens and adults are also invited to join the fun and register for SummerREAD to win prizes of their own.
