The City is gearing up for the July 30 Target Symphony in the Cities and Prelude in the Park event, a time-honored ritual that caters to people of all ages. In fact, this year’s event will focus on family fun and youth with the Southern California Children’s Chorus joining the Pacific Symphony in a concert under the stars.
Young and old alike will delight in chorus performances that include “The Water is Wide”; “This Old Man”; and other patriotic tunes in sync with the audience. George Ma, a talented cellist from the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, will dazzle with selections by Tchaikovsky, and kids will have the chance to join the Pacific Symphony’s Music Director Carl St. Clair as conductors.
Concert-goers of all ages will want to jumpstart their fun by attending the Prelude in the Park “Hometown Block Party” that kicks off at 4 p.m. The party includes a cornucopia of games, food and excitement for the entire family. An interactive “musical playground” follows at 5:30 p.m., giving budding young musicians an opportunity to learn about different musical instruments and to make their own instruments. The Pacific Symphony performs at 7 p.m.
The event takes place on the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park, 24932 Veterans Way.
