Teens ages 13 to 17 are invited to spend their summer reading or listening to their favorite books as part of the Mission Viejo Library’s annual SummerREAD program. The popular program, which attracts thousands each year, takes place July 1-30. With a theme of “You Are Here,” teens are encouraged to explore the world through books.
The library’s annual SummerREAD is a free incentive-based motivational program that encourages children, teens and adults to read.
Teens can write reviews and earn paperbacks, and through raffle contests, they have a chance to win grand prizes that include T-shirts, The Hunger Games merchandise, autographed teen books, gift cards and an iPod nano.
Along with weekly prizes, teens can take advantage of “Boredom Busters” – a series of international make-and-take crafts designed just for them. Teens can tap into their artistic sides by creating origami, tropical paradise marble magnets and an art museum in a box. A different activity is featured each week. Youth can sign up at the library’s Youth Reference Desk at 100 Civic Center.
Adults can get into the action by taking part in the Adult SummerREAD, which will give them a chance to win gift cards to restaurants, stores and more. In fact, the first 40 adults to sign up for the program will receive a free gift. Along with grand prize drawings at the end of the contest, the Adult SummerREAD also features four weekly quizzes to complete for a chance to win a basket full of fun items. Folks can enter at the reference desk or online.
