Mission Viejo’s Alicia Park will host a prestigious girls softball college recruiting event on July 8.
The event, hosted by the Orange County Batbusters softball organization, serves as a vehicle for high school girls to play before college coaches in the hopes of obtaining college scholarships. It will include more than 80 high school athletes from Orange, Riverside and LA counties along with San Diego areas.
The daylong event will test the players’ softball skills, speed and agility in front of the top schools in the country. About 50 schools will be present throughout the day including UCLA, Arizona, Stanford, Oregon, Arizona State, Florida, Washington, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Michigan, UNLV, Utah, Nevada, Fresno State, Hawaii and many others.
“This give us tremendous credibility to run college exposure workouts for the coaches to come and watch some of the future superstars of the sport show what they can do and know that the players at the camp are top-tier talent,” said Mike Stith, a longtime coach with the Orange County Batbusters.
Alicia Park has long been a popular venue for college showcase events. A couple of years ago, the park located at 23650 Via Linda was dubbed the “best softball complex in Southern California” by Softball News magazine.
“For well over 20 years, we have played at Alicia Park and its setting is perfect for this type of event with its shade and seating layout as well as nicely groomed turf … it fits this event perfectly.”
