Hundreds of pet owners helped to raise more than $11,350 to benefit homeless animals during the 17th Annual DAWG Walk & Pet Faire Saturday on the Village Green at Oso Viejo Park. With donations still coming in, that amount is expected to grow even more.
The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center partnered with Dedicated Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) to host the family event that included disc dogs, pet contests, animal rescues, booths, entertainment, pet and wildlife exhibits and much more. The morning began with more than 200 people and pets taking part in a pristine 2-mile walk along Oso Creek Trail.
Dogs of all ages, breeds, shapes and sizes – many who had been adopted from the animal shelter – blanketed the park. Many pet owners enjoyed showing off the talents of their furry family members during the pet contests.
Volunteers Russ and Elpha Mandell raised $1,140 for the cause, taking the $500 grand prize for the largest amount raised. But the generous couple donated the prize money to DAWG, which is the nonprofit fund-raising arm of the pro-humane Mission Viejo Animal Services Center.
All proceeds will go directly toward providing medical aid to local homeless animals.
