From Lego Camps to the Target Pacific Symphony in the Cities annual concert in the park, the City’s Library and Cultural Services Department has a host of fun and educational summer classes, activities and concerts on tap.

Laguna Beach Community Concert Band

Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 9 when the Laguna Beach Community Concert Band performs at 7 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

The Laguna Concert Band, which is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization of more than 60 members, plays a wide array of music from marches and classics to holiday music, swing, jazz, Big Band and Dixieland.

Tickets are $5 and are available in advance by calling 949-470-3062 or online at http://econnect.cityofmissionviejo.org by referencing course #2346. Tickets are also available at the door.

Clay Camp

Instructor Meg Safford will help youngsters create imaginative and original art pieces using kiln-fired clay.

The Clay Camp class for kids ages 5-12 is from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 27-30. A “Glazing Day” follows on July 8. Beginning and more experienced students will learn the hand-building techniques used by professional potters.

Cost is $160 plus a $10 material fee payable to instructor. For information, call 949-470-8440 or register online by referencing course #2331 at http://econnect.cityofmissionviejo.org.

Lego Camp

If your child likes to build bridges or motorized cars, then register for the LEGO camp that kicks off July 11.

The camp for ages 5-6 is from 9 a.m. to noon July 11-15 in the Saddleback Room at Mission Viejo City Hall, 200 Civic Center.

Through building cities, bridges and motorized cars and planes, the camp will teach students to become “play-well engineers” this summer. Students will explore the many creative possibilities of engineering with the LEGO system.

Cost is $195 and registration is available online by referencing course #2332 at http://econnect.cityofmissionviejo.org.

Pacific Symphony Concert July 30

The Pacific Symphony led by Musical Director Carl St. Clair returns to Mission Viejo on Saturday, July 30 in the City’s fun-filled summer ritual that caters to all ages.

The free event takes place on the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park, 24932 Veterans Way.

The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. with a hometown block party featuring music, family activities, games, and tasty home-style fare. At 5:30 p.m., a pre-concert “musical playground” for kids begins that includes a “conducting” clinic with Maestro St. Clair.  Children will also have the opportunity to meet a musician, play a variety of musical instruments and make their own drum.  The Pacific Symphony concert follows at 7 p.m.

For more information about any of these events, visit the City’s website at www.cityofmissionviejo.org; call the Cultural Arts Information Line at 949 470-8440; or e-mail dmaurer@cityofmissionviejo.org or kdickey@cityofmissionviejo.org.
