Art can serve as a launching pad for exploration, discovery and fun. This summer, the City is hosting an array of art classes for kids and adults that are designed to fuel an interest in art and provide that special opportunity for people to express their creativity.
Clay Camp
Instructor Meg Safford will help youngsters create imaginative and original art pieces using kiln-fired clay.
The Clay Camp class for kids ages 5-12 is from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 27-30. A “Glazing Day” follows on July 8. Beginning and more experienced students will learn the hand-building techniques used by professional potters.

Ceramics
In the Ceramics with Matt Morgan class, students of all ages will create original pieces using hand-building techniques and will get an introduction to the potters’ wheel.
The class is open to the novice and more experienced student and takes place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays from July 12 through Aug. 9.

Intro to Photography
If you’ve always wanted to take better photos, then the Introduction to Photography class is for you.
The class is from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays June 28-Aug. 2.
Instructor George Katzenberger will teach students about the fundamentals of shutter, aperture, perspective and ISO. Students will learn about resolution, symbols and menu items. Students should bring their camera manuals.

Photography and Art
In the “How to Photograph your Art” class, students will learn how to use their cameras to create digital images for postcards, slide shows and e-mail.
The class is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 16. Students should bring their camera’s manual and a digital SLR camera is preferred. Cell phone cameras are not recommended.

Photography as an Art Form
Adults 18 and over are invited to focus on the art of photography – composition and design; color and contrast on Wednesdays from June 29 through Aug. 3.
The class is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and students will learn how photography’s tools of shutter speeds depth of field and perspective will become their paints for self-expression.

Beginning and Intermediate Guitar
Guitar guru Ron Gorman will teach people the fundamentals of guitar playing in this class that takes place on Tuesdays from June 12 to July 26 (excluding July 5).
The beginner class is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the intermediate class following from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Students will learn open position chords, strum styles and time signatures. Bring your guitar and tuner.

Piano Keyboard for Children
Kids ages 7-12 will learn simple melodies of songs that everybody knows from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays July 15 through Aug. 19 (excluding Aug. 12).
No musical experience is required. Students must bring their own electronic keyboard and AC adaptor to class.
