A woman was arrested on Tuesday after firing a gun into the air over Lake Mission Viejo.
Sandra Smith, 65, faces a felony charge for firing off a 38-caliber pistol to scare off a group of young adults hanging out at the lake.
The incident happened around 11:45 p.m. when Smith went onto her balcony and yelled “be quiet” to eight young adults who were hanging out near the 22000 block of Formentor. She then returned holding an “unknown” object, and the young adults said they heard a gunshot and saw a muzzle flash. When asked, Smith told one of the witnesses that she had a gun. The eight people fled the lake’s beach and Smith called the Sheriff’s Department to report loud subjects.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered Smith was intoxicated. She said she had fired a flare gun but later admitted to shooting a gun into the air. Deputies found the gun, with one spent round and checked the area to ensure no one was injured.
Smith was arrested for discharging a firearm in a negligent manner.

Maybe they’ll be quieter next time?
Maybe she won`t have a gun pointed at people next time. Furthermore she did not call the police the young adults that got shot at called the police.
The use of DEADLY Force to express anger over loud noises, is insane! An intoxicated person could have easily “tripped or stumbled” having the firearm discharged in a direction not initially intended. Then you could have DEAD young people over a load noise in sleepy, safe Mission Viejo.
Young adults should also understand their limits and obey rules for use of lake; lights out go home, means lights out, go home and be safe. There is always another day/night to enjoy the lake area.
YOU DON’T SHOOT AT PEOPLE CAUSE THEY ARE BEING LOUD!!!!!
hahahaha that is funny to hear xD glad no one was hurt, but that is funny! yes, I am a bad person laughing, but i don’t care.
