More than $5,500 was raised in the “Second Time Around Jewelry/Accessories” sale that benefits Relay For Life of Mission Viejo. The money adds to the more than $90,000 already raised for this weekend’s Relay at Saddleback College.
The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to raise money for cancer research.
The weeklong Second Time Around sale, which ended today, sold gently used jewelry and accessories donated by gracious people in the community. Roughly 281 purses, 157 scarves, 87 watches and 48 handkerchiefs were sold at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.
Relay organizers are grateful for the community’s support and are hoping even more people support Relay For Life, which kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday at the college located at 28000 Marguerite Parkway.
Individuals and teams are still sought to participate and can sign up at the event, which features a host of family and children activities. The Kids Camp is from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; entertainment by Cappy’s Garage kicks off at 10:30 a.m.; and participants and visitors will enjoy the Mission Viejo’s Got Talent competition at 7 p.m. The public can also enjoy the $20 “3 Meal Deal,” which includes lunch from Quiznos and dinner from Outback Steakhouse on Saturday and a pancake breakfast by the Mission Viejo Activities Committee on Sunday. During the event, people will also have the unique opportunity to sign up to take part in a historic cancer study.
