Community members can drop off their old and damaged U.S. flags at Mission Viejo City Hall, so the symbols of liberty and freedom can be properly disposed of by the American Legion Post 862 on “Flag Day” June 14.
In the spirit of America’s national flag and everything it represents, American Legion Post 862 is teaming up with the City of Rancho Santa Margarita and a local Boy Scout troop to host a Flag Retirement Ceremony in the parking lot of Rancho Santa Margarita City Hall. Flags collected at Mission Viejo City Hall will be properly disposed of during the ceremony.
The American flag is an honored symbol of our nation’s unity, hopes, achievements, glory and its high resolve. When the flag is in such condition, through wear or damage that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it shall be destroyed in a dignified manner befitting such a symbol.
People can drop off their flags in the box in the Mission Viejo City Hall lobby at 200 Civic Center through June 13.

I’d like to attend this flag retirement ceremony. Could we please get a time/location posted here?
Thanks.
