The deadline to cast your vote in the first phase of the national “Bark for Your Park” contest is June 1. Residents passionate about building a dog park in Mission Viejo are pushing the PetSafe contest that will award one U.S. city or town $100,000 toward building a local dog park.
Mission Viejo is one of many cities – including Lake Forest – that has been nominated for a chance to win the funds by local supporters. The “Bark for Your Park” contest is hosted by PetSafe, which bills itself as a leading innovator in pet behavior and lifestyle products.
Based on the information provided about each city, PetSafe will evaluate community support, availability of land and resources and overall impact to the city to select 15 finalists. On July 13, the finalists will be announced and short videos about each will be posted. The winner will be announced in August.
For more information and to vote, visit the “Bark for Your Park” website.

Petsafe.net only asks for your email address so that you can only vote once in this phase of the contest. They will not sell your email address or send you further emails. Please vote and have everyone in your family vote if they have a different email address. Thank you!

Badly needed in Mission Viejo.
A bark park and the walk to it will be great exercise for both man and his best friend. It is a great venue for relaxation and just plain fun. The design is important so please make it more than mulch covered square. Please keep trees and bushes so Mother Nature stays alive in the park.
Mission Viejo is considered one of the largest master-planned communities ever built under a single project in the United States, and is rivaled only by Highlands Ranch, Colorado in its size. The city has a 2011 estimated population of 93,483. Yet, we have no dog park available for our pets and residents to meet and have a fun, clean, and safe place to play off the leash! This master planned community is great in the fact there are many amenities for it’s residents and children, but none for our pets! A dog park here would be a community gathering place in one of the United State’s safest cities, according to the FBI. It would be able to be used year round with our great weather and not closed up for snow during winter. We have very little open space left, and strict leash laws here prevent pets from playing off leash in an open space. A dog park in Mission Viejo is what is needed now for all of our city’s great residents, and their great pets!
Anyone, everywhere can vote. You don’t have to a resident of Mission Vote. Voting ends today at 2 p.m. (5:00 EDT).
We are officially a semi-finalist in Petsafe’s Bark for Your Park Contest! Please continue to check their site and mine for updates – thanks!
