It was a scene that would have made Mother Nature proud – hundreds of students embracing the environment during the City’s Environmental Fair today.
More than 600 third-grade students and teachers from seven schools took part in the hands-on affair, which was hosted by the Public Works Department.
The eager and excited students came from Bathgate, Carl Hankey, Del Cerro, Del Lago, De Portola, Montevideo, and Viejo elementary schools to the grand event held in the City’s Civic Center.
The green event, which is designed to educate, entertain and inform students, included a presentation by the Discovery Science Center dubbed “Get Your Mind into the Gutter” and “The Magic of Recycling” show.
Several government agencies and non-profit organizations hosted booths and provided interactive activities with an environmental theme. This year, the event coincided with National Public Works week, a celebration of those who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. The students learned about the different aspects of public works by perusing a number of booths. After the kids made their way through the vast booths, they enjoyed lunch in the Kershaw Garden.
The fair, which is an annual tradition, continues to receive tremendous feedback from teachers and students alike.
