The City Council this week was feted by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) for its transportation efforts and proudly paid homage to the Crossing Guard of the Year, as part of its council recognitions that are designed to honor those who make a difference in Mission Viejo.
On Monday, OCTA Vice Chair and Laguna Niguel Mayor Pro Tem Paul Glaab presented a proclamation and thanked the City for its leadership in partnering with OCTA to deliver transportation improvements promised to voters with Measure M. Orange County’s half-cent transportation sales tax has funded numerous freeway, transit, street and environmental projects throughout the county.
Council members also honored Luz O’Connell, who was named Crossing Guard of the Year. As a crossing guard, Luz is an unsung hero who makes sure our children make it to school safely. She works at the busy intersection of Mustang Run and Los Alisos where she crosses both high school and elementary children, who simply adore her. It was Luz’s dedication to the children that earned her the grand title and respect of her employer, All City Management.
The City Council meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Monday of the month at City Hall, 200 Civic Center. To watch Monday’s meeting and for more information, visit cityofmissionviejo.org.
