Waste Management launches home waste loss contest

Mission Viejo’s waste hauler has launched the Waste Management Bagster Home Waste Loss contest, giving residents remodeling their homes a chance to shed unwanted pounds of construction debris and gain a $3,300 grand prize. The program is designed to divert construction and demolition waste from the landfill.

The contest, which runs through May 1, offers home remodelers the chance to win VISA gift cards by submitting one “before” photo and one “after” photo of their home renovation project (one room or space).  One grand prize winner will win a $3,300 VISA gift card; nine first prizes of $100 VISA gift cards will be awarded.

Submissions will be judged based on transformation of the renovation; overall quality of renovation results; aesthetic appeal/quality of overall composition of entry photos; and suitability of entry photos to be used by WM.  Photos may be submitted at http://bagsterwasteloss.votigo.com in JPEG, PNG or BMP format, no larger than 5 MB.  No purchase or use of the Bagster is necessary to win.

According to Waste Management, the Bagster provides a safe and effective waste disposal system to collect up to 3,300 pounds of construction waste.  All material collected in the Bagster goes to Waste Management’s recycling facility in Irvine where recyclables are removed from the waste stream.  Last year, Waste Management and Mission Viejo recycled more than 34,000 tons of recyclables from the landfill.

The Bagster Home Waste Loss Plan includes the following steps:

1.      Buy the Bagster bag at your local home improvement retailer.
2.      Fill it with up to 3,300 lb. of debris or waste.
3.      Schedule your collection online or by phone and WM will pick it up.
