Mission Viejo’s waste hauler, Waste Management, was recognized as one of the “2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies” by the Ethisphere Institute, a research-based international think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability.
According to Ethisphere, the World’s Most Ethical Companies designation recognizes companies that go beyond making statements about doing business “ethically” and translate those words into action. This is the fourth year Waste Management has received the award, according to a press release, and the fifth year Ethisphere has published the rankings, which appear in the Ethisphere Magazine’s Q1 issue.
The company reviewed thousands of companies and evaluated a record number of applications through in-depth research and analysis, naming 110 companies – such as American Express, eBay, Ford Motor Company, Adidas and Starbucks - that surpassed their industry peers to this year’s World’s Most Ethical Companies list. The 2011 list features companies in 38 industries.
Waste Management has been providing waste and recycling services for Mission Viejo for more than a decade.
“Waste Management places a strong value on corporate responsibility, and being named to Ethisphere’s 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies list is a testament to the solid foundation we have in place,” David Steiner, CEO of WM said in a statement. “Having this distinction helps to evaluate our position as an industry leader and employer of choice. We are committed to sharing an unwavering dedication to the highest ethical standards from employees at every level of our organization.”
