The Tesoro High School Lacrosse program is hoping to raise $20,000 and awareness for the HEADstrong Foundation through a program called “Score for a Cure.”
Nick Colleluori, a former college Lacrosse player who died of blood cancer in November 2006, created the HEADstrong Foundation. He wanted to raise awareness and help others affected by this disease.
Score for a Cure is a program where team members get sponsorships based on the total number of goals the team scores by the end of the season. The lacrosse season is March 14 through June 1.
Tesoro Titan lacrosse players are dedicated to the cause.
“Tesoro Titan lacrosse players are often asked why they wear lime green and they wear it for a reason,” said Tesoro Lacrosse Booster Club Communications Coordinator Cindy Putman in an e-mail to the City. “Lime green was chosen as it is the color for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma; the players proudly wear lime green with their Tesoro Titan red, white, and blue.”
The public is invited to help the team with its mission by donating to the cause. For more information, visit www.tesorolacrosse.org or contact Cindy Putman at tesoro2009lacrosse@cox.net.
